The well-being and retention of faculty in academic medicine has been challenged with steeper attrition for women. Since women constitute over half of medical school classes and assistant professors, the loss of women in medicine results in a significant forfeiture of considerable talent. In addition, faculty encounter numerous obstacles that impede their promotion and progression into leadership roles with decision-making and budgetary authority, particularly in academic medicine. Challenges include gender bias in promotion, salary inequity, professional isolation, bullying, sexual harassment, and lack of recognition, all or which lead to higher rates of attrition and burnout in WIMS. The UF College of Medicine- Jacksonville and Gainesville WIMS conference will address some of these challenges, equipping attendees with knowledge and tools to overcome barriers while emphasizing the importance of achieving work-life integration. Furthermore, the conference will provide a valuable opportunity for networking and mentorship for all attendees.
